EXPO!

Today we have an expo to share our learning.
Room 11 have a display about using our thinking skills in reading, writing and maths.
If you have time it would be great to see you. We will be open until 6 pm.

Reading time

Today we worked so hard with our reading and writing that we had some time to practice our letter and word knowledge.

 
 
 
 
 

Awesome readers

Mrs Nathan has been busy testing Room 11 in reading.

Halatoa and Larenz have both been trying really hard and they are now working at level 9 and 8!  They are well on track towards meeting National Standards once they have had one year at school!

Mrs Nathan and Whaea Maeva were so proud of them that we gave them one of our big prizes each.

Assembly

It was Room 11's turn to host the junior school assembly.  Whaea Maeva chose people who wanted to have a turn and who she knew would have big clear voices.
Room 11 did a great job saying some really hard words and using a big voice so that Mrs Nathan could hear them at the back of the hall.

Who's at school?

Each day we use our clever maths brains to work out how many people are at school.

We find out how many boys and how many girls there are.

First we count the boys.  Manatu told me there were seven, because he knew that 5 on one side and 2 on the other made 7.  Then we noticed that there were 4 girls. Hazel knew this because she saw one empty space.

Timoteo reminded us that we needed to move the girls onto the boys bus to fill it up and make 10.  This makes it easy for our brains to do.

Then we had 10 people on one bus and only 1 on the other.  Jethro knew that this was 11 children at school.

Kahlany and Tauroa came late so we had to find out how many we had then.  11+2 was a bit tricky so we looked at the buses and saw 10 on one and 3 on the other and Jethro knew that it was 13.

Math's Activities

Today after we had finished our number 7 worksheet we used the maths activities.

Dezyire and Lolesio were pracising the numbers that come between,

Tauroa, Manatu, Jethro and Halatoa were practising counting and writing numbers 

Timoteo and Jrinay were using the counting puzzles to practice putting numbers in order. 

Star Writers

Today we have two star writers!

Manatu was able to hear and write all the sounds he needed for his story.

Wyatt knew where to find the words he needed for his story.

High fives for both of you!!!!

Star Writer

Today's Star Writer was Hazel.  She worked hard to hear and write the sounds she needed.  She was able to use her butterfly card to find some words as well.  Great work Hazel, keep trying!

Star Writer

Today Halatoa was a star writer.  He was able to hear almost all the sounds he needed for his story and he knew where to find the words on the Butterfly card.

ICT

Today in the computer suite we were learning to log on, open a browser and open our blog page.  From there we opened the abcya.com page and practiced our alphabet and words.  We are really good at helping each other know what to do without being bossy and taking over.

Maths group

Today in Maths, Timo, Fresha, Tauroa and Hazel were learning to read a number story and make sets to help them solve a problem.

Story Writing

Today Room 11 were all Super Star Writers.  We were able to help Mrs Nathan hear all the sounds in her story.  We are learning to write the suffixes -ed and -er because that sneaky -e is just too hard to hear.

Larenz and Kahlany were Super Writers.  They went to show their writing to Mrs Dawson because they have learnt to sound out the words they need by themselves.  Keep it up!

Maths

Today in Maths we were learning about the number three.
We worked together on activities to help us recognise and make sets to 20.
