Today we have a Home School Partnership Expo to show our parents and friends our work.
Here  are two of our friends making a comment on our blog.
We can't wait until it is our turn to visit after lunch!

Number of the week 13 unlucky for some

This week we are learning about the number 13.

It is too big to make by ourselves so we needed a friend to help us.  

One of us made 10 and the other made 3.

Then we started our 13 book.

Caszius made a rainbow 13.

                                       

 Jono counted all of the animals.  There were 13 rabbits, 13 monkeys and 13 pigs.

 Filipe found all the number 13's

Gideon coloured-in 13 crosses.

Clever Maths

Each day we use our clever maths brains to work out how many people we have at school in Room 11.

Today Isaiah noticed that there were 10 boys on the first bus, because he could see 5 on one side and 5 on the other side.  He knew that 5+5=10.  Then we saw one more boy on the other bus.  That made 11 boys.

Leytton saw that the girls had the same as the first boys bus, so that meant there were 10 girls.

Bella knew we could use our hard doubles to solve our problem.  She knew that 10+10=20.  But we still had one boy on his own bus and Bella knew this meant that we had 21 children at school today.

Aren't we clever!

Jump Rope For Heart.

We have been learning to skip so that we will be ready for Jump Rope for Heart day.

Fun Time Lunchtime

Today at school we had fun time lunchtime.  

There were toffee apples, cakes and drinks for sale.

You could buy a balloon hat!

The big boys were giving us rides in their go-karts.

You could play games and win a prize.

We had our face painted!

It was a really fun lunchtime ;)

Story Writing

Our Number of the Week- 19

This week we are learning about the number 19.

We have a book about 19.

Tayla and Vika can find the number 19 and circle it.

Jessica and Hauofa can write rainbow 19s.

 

Epenesa can draw 19 raindrops.

Dog safety.

Last week Janet came to talk to us about how to stay safe around dogs.
She told us what to do if we saw a strange dog and if a dog knocks us over.
We practised being turtles so we would know what to do.

Writing with Room 11

Each day we help Mrs Nathan to write her story.  We listen hard for the sounds and tell her how to spell the words we know.  Mrs Nathan writes in black and we write in purple.  Today Mrs Nathan only had to help us with two letters and an apostrophe.  When we finish writing Mrs Nathan tries to trick us by asking us to find words in her story.  We are getting to be great listeners and writers. 

Room 11's Writing

In Room 11 we are learning to write a sentence about our topic.  We are learning to start with a capital letter and finish with a full stop.  We are able to write some words by ourselves and we are learning to sound out new words.

Wild Animal Masks

After our visit to the zoo we made some masks.

Our Trip to the zoo

On Thursday the 13 June the whole Junior School went to the zoo!
We learned about all of the jobs a zoo keeper does and then we got to explore.
Some of us got to feed the giraffe.  He had a really long neck and a long tongue!

The elephant was doing her exercise, the hippo was swimming but most of the other animals were sleeping.
We could hear the siamang monkey calling but as soon as we went to see him he was very quiet.

One of the best things about our day was playing on the playground like monkeys.
We hope we can go again one day.

Welcome to 2013

Greetings and welcome to 2013!!!
Mrs Nathan is pleased to be back and starting the year with a new class of 5 year olds.
We have had a room change so we will now be known as Room 11.

We love weaving

We learnt to weave.

First we got a black piece of paper and made four cuts.

Next we got five strips of different coloured paper.

Then we wove the first strip over and under, over and under.

The next strip went under and over, under and over.

We did this until we had used all the strips.

Red Nose day

On Friday we had a mufti day to raise money for Red Nose Day.  We had to wear something red, bring a gold coin and the big girls painted our noses red.

The money raised was for the sick children.

Forbes and Naumai make doubles

Naumai and Forbes were using the tens frames and counters to practice making doubles.  Aren't they clever!

At School Maths

This week it is Maths week.
We decided to solve our daily problem by using doubles, even though we knew it wasn't the fastest way.
We love to solve problems using doubles!

We decided to use our doubles knowledge and Tamahau knew 7+7 was 14.

Then we had to add the extra 2 people.

Talib knew that 4+2 was 6 so that meant that 14+2 had to be 16.

We are learning lots of ways to solve our addition problems.

Ants on the anthill

Our Letter of the week was Aa and we made a display with Ants on the anthill, a, a , a.
