Cross Country

Today we had our school cross country.

We all went out to the field.

Then it was time for the girls race...

And then the boys...

Everybody tried their best and ran the whole course.  Well done Room 11 we are so proud of you, but especially Monaro who was 3rd!

Today Calais was able to hear a lot of the sounds he needed and he knew where to find his words.

The group with Mrs Nathan we're learning to put the biggest number in their head and then count on to solve our number problems!

Today Mrs Nathan gave Kasslin a challenge.  She asked her to think of a different story starter, instead of I went to.  Kasslin wrote about Greedy Cat instead.  She wrote two sentences and finished with an exclamation mark!

A happy sad afternoon.

Today Krishnav brought us a yummy cake.  He is moving to Tokoroa to be with his Dad.

We will miss you Krishnav, but wish you and your family all the best at your new school.

Maths today

Today in maths we worked in groups to complete our pattern activities.  Our focus was on team work and problem solving.

Some groups had great success and others found the job difficult.

Star Writer

Today Suliana finished her writing book. When we looked back at the start of her book we noticed that at the beginning of the year she couldn't really write any words, but now she is amazing!  She can write two sentences and she can find the words and sounds she needs.

We can't wait to see how clever you are at the end of the next term Suliana!

A fun afternoon

Today we played with a new app called Quiver.

We coloured in a picture from the website. Quivervision.com

Then we used the app to bring them to life!

One of Our Favourite Reading Books

Today Room 11 took one of their favourite reading books home to share with their families.  Their job was to be the teacher and see if their families could predict what the something very scary was and how they thought the characters would get the scary thing out.

We had a lot of fun trying to guess what  it was and to look for clues while we read the book to tell us if we were right.

We used clues from another book we had read called The Hissing Bush as well as what we knew had scary eyes and made hissing noises.

If your brother, sister, son or daughter is in Room 11 please let us know how good they were at asking questions and helping you to solve the mystery.

You can come and see our Something Scary pictures and stories in class as well.

Star Writers

Today we had two star writers!

Dara was able to write his story all by himself by finding the words he needed or sounding them out.

Righteous worked with Mrs Nathan but he didn't really need her.  Mrs Nathan just helped him to keep his story in his head and he knew exactly where to find the words he needed.

Keep up the great work you stars!

The Best class at assembly is...

Room 11!

Today we won the certificate for the best class at assembly.  That means that we were the class with the best manners and the best listening skills.

Way to go Room 11!

Star Writers

Today Krishnav and Suliana were our Star Writers.

Suliana worked hard with Mrs Nathan to find the words and the sounds she needed.

Krishnav was able to find the words and sounds he needed by himself.

Bubblegum Dance Crew!

This morning the Bubblegum Dance Crew came to our school to dance for us.
They were awesome dancers.

There was a dance battle and Mrs Dawson was a crazy dancer.  She won a lolly because she was so good.

They were the best dancers and they have won gold medals at the World hip hop championships.
They are going back to America to be part of another World Championship battle.  We think that they will  win a gold medal again.

Samoan Language Week Assembly

Today we had a special assembly for Samoan language week.

There were a lot of special performances

And Righteous won a very special award for all the great learning he has done this term.

We can't wait for next year's celebrations!

Reading with the Red Group

'Today the red group read Late for the Race.  They were learning to use the pictures for clues to help them find more information about the story.

Isaac L moved up to the red group and he did a great job of helping us.

Today Issac O was our star writer.  He worked really hard with Whaea Maeva and was able to find all the sounds and words he needed on his alphabet card.

Kiwi Can

Today in Kiwi Can we were learning about our responsibilities at home and at school.

Today Kasslin was the star writer.  She has become so clever at hearing the sounds she needs and finding the words she needs around the room or on her alphabet card.

Today Dara started writing in his new book.  He wrote his whole story by himself.  He knew where to find the words he needed on his alphabet card and on the wall.

Reading with Blue Group

Today Blue group were reading Grandma's vase.  They were using the pictures for clues to help them learn more about the story.  They also needed to use their fingers to point to the words and use Lips the Fish to help with the new words they met.

Today Isaac L read to the class.  He was really nervous but he used the pictures for clues and checked each word as he read it.

ANZAC Memorial Assembly

We had an assembly to remember the ANZAC soldiers.

They were heroes.

They fought a battle for us.

We wear poppies to remember them.

Firewise visit

Firefighter Matt came to school to talk to us about staying safe if there is a fire.

He told us that if we find matches or a lighter we should give it to an adult and ask them to put them up high, 

that smoke is fire,

that smoke alarms should be in all bedrooms, hallways and living rooms and we need to check that they are working.  A smoke alarm is the only way we will wake up if their is a fire, because we can't smell in our sleep!

If there is a fire we need to get down, get low, get out quickly and head to our safe meeting place.  

A safe meeting place is the mailbox.

He also told us to shut the door of the room with the fire as we go outside, this will stop the fire from spreading to the rest of the house.
