Maths Whizzes

Yesterday and today we have been working hard in our maths groups, using our number knowledge to solve number stories.
we showed how we got our answer by drawing a picture, using the number line and writing an equation.

Trophy Winners

Last week Room 11 won the trophy for the class with the best attendance.  Only one person was away on one day!

Guest reader

Today Krishnav read a story to the class.  He used a loud and clear voice so that we could all hear him.  He was able to ask some great questions to make sure that the class were listening to the story.

Welcome to Room 11 2015!
We are very excited to be starting a new year with some new whanau and some old friends.

This is where we like to share all our good learning and exciting things we do at school.  Please take the time to leave a comment for your children as they get very excited when they know you are visiting our page.  The instructions on how to leave a comment can be found on the right of each page.


We are very excited to share the great writing from two of our boys who have only been at school for one week!

Krishnav and Monaro have worked hard to find words they know and record the sounds they hear.  They have even remembered to start with a capital letter and ended with a fullstop.  What a fantastic start to the year!

This week we have been learning about the letter Mm.  Today we made pet mice.

Our number of the week is the number 3.  Here is a song we found which shares why the number three is so important.

Star Writer

Today Kilifi surprised us with his writing.  He was able to hear and write a lot of the words and sounds he needed by himself!  Well done Kilifi I love surprises like these!

A visit to Homai Kindy

Today we also had a visit to Homai Kindy.
It was great to see some of our old friends and to meet the children who would be coming to Room 11 soon.

Athletics Day

This morning we had athletics at school.  We had a race from one end of the field to the other.  We ran as fast as we could!
Congratulations to Riley and Kilifi who made it through the finals for 5 year old boys.

Star Writer

Today Apeta wrote her story all by herself.  She knew where to find hard words like 'park' and 'with'!

Apeta you are becoming the best writer in Room 11!  I am so Proud of you!

Star Writer

Our Star writer for Monday was Apeta.  She was able to write most of the words she needed by herself and hear the main sounds in the one word she couldn't write.  Great work Apeta!

Star writers!

On Monday when Jay started school he couldn't write his name.  Today he wrote his name all by himself!  Wow, what a clever boy!

Kilifi was working hard to write all the sounds he could hear in his writing.  He wrote about the mum and dad in Frozen.

Lion lollipops

Today we made lion lollipops.  When we finished we read them a story.  They were really good at listening.

Maths

Today we were learning to notice how many spots were on the tens frame cards without counting.
We were looking at the patterns and we were noticing the empty spaces.

Today Mylene and Lilly did amazing writing.  They were able to write most of their words without help and they were able to write the sounds they heard in their tricky words.

Congratulations to Joshua who was our star writer on Tuesday.  He was able to hear a lot of sounds while working with Mrs Nathan and he is trying really hard to write his letters correctly.

Today's star writers are Kiara and Lilly.  They drew wonderful pictures of their dad and wrote about Father's day on Sunday.

Today Mylene and Te Amomai showed Mrs Dawson their writing about the bouncy castle.
They are both really good at hearing the sounds they need and looking for words around the room.

Today Choice Kids brought their bouncy castle for us to have a play on.  We had a lot of fun.

Writing Star

On Monday Jethro took his writing to Mrs Dawson to share.  He was able to hear a lot of the sounds he needed while he was working with Mrs Nathan.  He is learning to listen and write the sounds he hears while he is working by himself too.  Great work Jethro!

Jump Rope for Heart

On Friday we had a fun morning moving around the skipping stations for Jump Rope for Heart day.
