Today Dara shared his writing with Mrs Dawson.
He is learning to write all of the sounds he can hear and he is getting better at making his letters look right.

ASB visit

On Tuesday morning we had a visit from Tessa.  She shared a secret with us...she's a saving superhero! Shhhhh!!! Don't tell anyone!

She trained us all to be saving superheroes too!

We now know the difference between needs and wants.  She also taught us to speed for your needs and wait for your wants.

Thanks Tessa, we had a great time!

Maths Groups

Letter of the week is Letter Tt

Our letter this week is the letter Tt.
Dara said this was his favourite song now.

We know that train track, tree, toothpaste, toothbrush, tea, turtle, tiger and table start with Tt.  What other words can you think of?

Star Writers

Today Kasslin and Kepu used their letter sound knowledge to write their stories.  They were both able to hear most of the sounds they needed and to use the butterfly card to find words.

I for Insect

Today Sacha brought an insect to school.  It was a green grasshopper.

We wrote a story about it.  Look at all the sounds we were able to hear!

planting seeds

On Monday the 23rd of February we planted bean and sunflower seeds.
We predicted that they would have grown by the next morning when we came to school... we were wrong!

Yesterday when we came to school four of the seeds had sprouted!  Over the day we watched as Kepu's bean stretched upwards and Kasslin's began to come out of the soil.

We watched this amazing clip to show us what had happened to our seed!

We can't wait to see how many plants we have by the end of the day!

Letter of the week , letter Ii

The letter of the week this week is the letter Ii.  We found this cool song to help us learn some 'i' words.
Isaac L said it was his favourite song so far.  Everybody agrees with him.

Maths Whizzes

Yesterday and today we have been working hard in our maths groups, using our number knowledge to solve number stories.
we showed how we got our answer by drawing a picture, using the number line and writing an equation.

Trophy Winners

Last week Room 11 won the trophy for the class with the best attendance.  Only one person was away on one day!
Keep it up Room 11!

Guest reader

Today Krishnav read a story to the class.  He used a loud and clear voice so that we could all hear him.  He was able to ask some great questions to make sure that the class were listening to the story.

Welcome to Room 11 2015!
We are very excited to be starting a new year with some new whanau and some old friends.

We are very excited to share the great writing from two of our boys who have only been at school for one week!

Krishnav and Monaro have worked hard to find words they know and record the sounds they hear.  They have even remembered to start with a capital letter and ended with a fullstop.  What a fantastic start to the year!

Today Kilifi surprised us with his writing.  He was able to hear and write a lot of the words and sounds he needed by himself!  Well done Kilifi I love surprises like these!

A visit to Homai Kindy

Today we also had a visit to Homai Kindy.
It was great to see some of our old friends and to meet the children who would be coming to Room 11 soon.

Athletics Day

This morning we had athletics at school.  We had a race from one end of the field to the other.  We ran as fast as we could!
Congratulations to Riley and Kilifi who made it through the finals for 5 year old boys.
